A Long Drive Home

It is good to take a road trip and good to be home.

The part that is hardest for me is the last couple of hours.  That’s when you are so closed to home you

1. get stuck in traffic

2. don’t want to stop no matter what

And not stopping always makes me crabby.  Each trip I think, this time I will stop and take a break, but I don’t.

I didn’t this time either.

So when I got confused by the construction near Ft. Worth and got diverted to 30 and ended up in even more traffic.  I got crabby.

Good thing that getting home and unpacking the car helps me not be crabby any more.

The dog was so happy he took all his toys out of his bed and ran laps around the house.

What I Call a Vacation

I have to tell you that last night was the best way to end the holiday.

We celebrated Tio’s birthday by eating at a Chinese Buffet Restaurant and opened presents.

Then went to the older kid’s open house at school.  I got to see what they had been doing since school started.  Very nice.

Can’t think of a better way to spend time off.

Headed home now and on Monday will have a job interview.

My grandson told me to come back for his birthday in August.  “Be on time, or I’ll start without you.”  I told him I would love to come and hopefully I’ll be able to make it.  I’ll just tell the new job I have plans in August that I can’t change. (if I get it)

Time Keeps Ticking

I’ve been having a blast visiting with my son and his family.  Been watching lots of PBS and catching up on what’s new in educational TV.

The Tortuga on Wild Kratts has created a variation on our Turtle game.  You get tickled if you say turtle but not tortoise nor Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  But beware if you say tortuga!  You’ll get chased and tickled as if you’ve said turtle.

Oh and if I’m not paying attention, you’ll get tickled if you say Torta.

Sorry, Joey, I miss heard you!

And all too soon it’s about time for me to pack my bags and head home.  Where did the time go!?!

Almost As Good As Gpa

Since Gpa hasn’t been here to throw food to the dog, the little dog has been losing weight.  Which is good.  He looked about ready to pop!

But he does pay close attention when the babies eat.  They aren’t throwing food to him but there has been some droppage.

Cagney is ready for when that happens.  He’s also been able to find some other things they have dropped in the past.

So it’s almost as good as Gpa.

I think that by the time the dog gets used to all the chaos, we’ll be going home and have to get used to the quiet at home.

Under The Weather

I was so looking forward to the trip to California.  Last time, I napped a lot because Gpa kept me up all night.

Well, 2 days in and I catch a cold!  And am napping a lot.  Bummer.

And drinking lots of fluids and taking cold meds.  I’m determined to knock this out so I can enjoy the kids.

The girls are supposed to check in on the tomato babies.  I’ve asked for an update, but no reply.

My Valentine

Today I’ll be celebrating Valentine’s day with the babies, giving my son and his wife a chance to have an evening out.

I’m thinking pizza, always a favorite and a netflix movie.  However, that may change as my grandson was asking about Wall-e.

I can’t think of anything I’d rather be doing.

I hope you have a great valentine’s day, whatever you do.

A Nice Break

It is so good to be with the grandbabies.  It’s been fun watching them interact with the dog.  We walk him to school and  back.  The babies are taking turns.  Sometimes this is a hard thing to learn.

We had Christmas the first night and have been playing with the new stuff.  It is hard to wait for the glue to dry on the model car.  And wait until after school to paint it.

Getting lots of encouragement to find a job in California.  I’ll look and see what I find.  But they are talking about moving to Texas in 5 years or so when they are ready to buy a house.  I’m thinking 5 years goes by fast and I may just stay until they come.

And make sure I take vacations to see them.

So nice to just hang out and read books, flash math cards and sing songs.  Just what I needed.

A Hero’s Journey

I am listening to a book on tape.  “A hero’s journey’ has been mentioned a couple of times.  I think that if you ask the hero when he/she started out, maybe even when they are done, they never felt like a hero.

They just did the next thing that needed to be done.

When Gpa first got diagnosed with dementia, a friend told me about a family counselor that was free.  So I’d go on my lunch hour.  Oh how I needed this.  But then the woman got promoted and I graduated me.  Said I wold be fine and really I was doing much better than most of her clients.  I felt fired.

Once when I was there telling her of the struggle, she asked, what if God were just asking you to push the obstacle but was not expecting you to move it? Well, that would be something then.  I could just stand their and push and not be frustrated that I wasn’t getting anywhere.

My daughter tells me that when Gpa and I fell, I yelled, “Why is this so hard”  I had thought I just thought it at God.  But that is what got my daughter in the room to help us up.

I’m thinking maybe it’s been hard pushing so long because the sign says pull.

And I’m going to have to go through the door without him.

Wholehearted Life

Several months ago a friend recommended I read Brene Brown’s book, “The Gifts of Imperfection: Your Guide to a Wholehearted Life’

The library didn’t have it and then I found out you can request the library to purchase items you want.   So I did.

It came in and I’ve just finished reading it.  Just the thing as I look to what I do next. Who I am next.

Check it out and let me know what you think.

Fun Things to do in Ft. Worth

If I had had time on the trips I took to Ft. Worth, I would have done something fun.

I saw that the Kimball museum has a sculpture exhibit of  Bernini.  When Gpa was carving, he also did a couple of sculptures and castings.  We’d both enjoy this I think.

And Jean, the lady who took me to lunch after Gpa’s service, told me there is a quilt exhibit at the Cowgirl Museum.

Oh, and there’s always Sundance Square, we’ve always enjoyed spending time there and it was just down the way from where Gpa used to live.

I think I’ll see if the girls would like to go with me sometime to check it out.
